Ultrasound
Ultrasonography is a sophisticated, non-invasive diagnostic tool that we are proud to offer at our facility.
The ultrasound machine generates a high-frequency sound beam through a wand that is strategically placed on a patient. As the beam passes harmlessly through the patient, a computer is used to generate an image based on the amount of sound reflected back. The image is produced in real time on the monitor of the ultrasound machine. Ultrasound is most often used in conjunction with radiography. An x-ray will show the shape and size of an organ, but only an ultrasound will provide information concerning the internal structure and texture of the organ.
It is often necessary to shave the pet’s hair in the area where the probe will be placed prior to the procedure for optimal results. Most patients cooperate very well for these procedures, but some will need light sedation depending on the circumstances. Typically, we ask that your pet be dropped off in the morning for such instances due to their time consuming nature.
